പാഠഭാഗത്തിന്റെ സാരാംശമാണ് കഥയായി ഇവിടെ നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
റോക്കി, വളരെ മര്യാദക്കാരനായ ഒരു നായ്ക്കുട്ടിയാണ്. അവൻ നല്ലൊരു ഉച്ചയൂണും കഴിഞ്ഞ് മരച്ചുവട്ടിൽ വിശ്രമിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അപ്പോൾ അതാ കുറച്ചു തേനീച്ചകൾ മൂളിക്കൊണ്ട് അവന്റെ തലയ്ക്കുചുറ്റും വട്ടമിട്ട് പറക്കുന്നു. അവന് ദേഷ്യം വന്നു.
"ദയവുചെയ്ത് എന്നെ ദേഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തരുത്" അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു.
ഒരു കാക്ക ഇതെല്ലാം കാണുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവൾ തേനീച്ചകൾക്കുചുറ്റും പറക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
“എന്നെ ശല്യം ചെയ്യരുത്", റോക്കി പറഞ്ഞു.
അപ്പോഴാണ് ഒരു പൂച്ച ഒരു അണ്ണാന്റെ പുറകെ ഓടുന്നത് റോക്കി കണ്ടത്. അവന് ഒരു തമാശ തോന്നി. അവൻ പൂച്ചയെ പിന്തുടർന്നു.
“എന്നെ വെറുതെ വിടൂ. ഞാൻ ആ അണ്ണാനെ പിടിക്കട്ടെ." പൂച്ച പറഞ്ഞു.
അണ്ണാൻ ഓടി മരത്തിൽ കയറിയിട്ട് ''ഛിൽ .... ഛിൽ'' എന്ന് പൂച്ചയെ കളിയാക്കി ചിലച്ചു. പൂച്ചയും മരത്തിൽ കയറി.
റോക്കി ഇതെല്ലാം നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് താഴെ നിൽക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അണ്ണാൻ മരത്തിന്റെ ഇലകൾക്കിടയിൽ മറഞ്ഞു. പൂച്ച താഴേക്കു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ റോക്കി മരത്തിൽ കയറാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടു. പൂച്ച താഴേക്ക് ചാടി ജീവനും കൊണ്ട് ഓടി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.
റോക്കി മരത്തിൽ കയറാൻ നോക്കുന്നത് കാക്ക കണ്ടു. അവളുടെ കൂട് ആ മരത്തിലായിരുന്നു. കൂട്ടിൽ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവൾ റോക്കിയുടെ ചുറ്റും വട്ടത്തിൽ പറക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. റോക്കി മരത്തിൽ കയറാനുള്ള ശ്രമം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് തിരികെ നടന്നു.
പോകുന്ന വഴി അവന് ഒരു എല്ലിൻകഷണം കിട്ടി. അവൻ പുല്ലിൽ ഇരുന്ന് ആ എല്ല് കടിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
“ഹായ്! നല്ല രുചി'' അവൻ കണ്ണുകളടച്ച് അതിന്റെ സ്വാദ് ആസ്വദിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
വിശന്നിരുന്ന കാക്ക ഇതെല്ലാം കാണുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവൾ എല്ല് തട്ടിയെടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് പറന്നു.
“വികൃതിക്കാക്ക", റോക്കിക്ക് ദേഷ്യവും സങ്കടവും വന്നു. അവൻ മുകളിലേക്കും താഴേക്കും ചാടി. പിന്നെ ദേഷ്യം തീരുവോളം മണ്ണിൽ കിടന്ന് ഉരുണ്ടു. പതുക്കെ അവൻ ശാന്തനായി.
പെട്ടെന്ന് ആകാശം കറുത്തിരുണ്ടു. കാറ്റ് ആഞ്ഞടിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. വലിയ ഒരു ഇടിമുഴക്കം ഭൂമിയെ വിറപ്പിച്ചു. മഴപെയ്യാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
“ക്രാ... ക്രാ..” കാക്ക ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു. അവളുടെ കൂട് കാറ്റിലാടുന്നത് അവൾ കണ്ടു. പെട്ടെന്ന് മരക്കൊമ്പൊടിഞ്ഞ് കൂട് താഴെ വീണു.
“കീയോ...കീയോ...'' കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെ കരച്ചിൽ റോക്കി കേട്ടു. നിലത്തു വീണുകിടക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളോട് അവന് ദയ തോന്നി. അവൻ അവരുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് നടന്നു. കാക്കക്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ മഴയിൽ കുതിർന്നിരുന്നു.
“കരയണ്ട, കൂട്ടരേ...'' അവൻ അവരെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ചു.
“സഹായിക്കണേ...സഹായിക്കണേ...'' റോക്കി ഒരു കരച്ചിൽ കേട്ടു.
ശബ്ദം കേട്ട വശത്തേക്ക് അവൻ തിരിഞ്ഞു. അമ്മക്കാക്ക ഒരു മരക്കൊമ്പിന്റെ അടിയിൽപ്പെട്ടു കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
റോക്കിക്ക് കാക്കയോട് ദയ തോന്നി. അവൻ മരക്കൊമ്പ് വലിച്ചു മാറ്റാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു. അതിന് നല്ല ഭാരമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവസാനം അവൻ ഒരുവിധം ആ കമ്പ് വലിച്ചു മാറ്റി കാക്കയെ രക്ഷിച്ചു. കാക്കയുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ ഈറനണിഞ്ഞു. അവൾ നന്ദിയോടെ റോക്കിയെ നോക്കി.

My Birdwatching Diary
On Friday 15th August, I woke up early at 5.30 am. I wanted to go to school early for the Independence day celebrations. Suddenly, I heard a sweet sound "coo...coo..." from outside. "What's that?" I asked Mom and jumped outside. Mom also came with me. It was a bird, a black bird. Again it sang "coo...coo."
"What a beautiful voice!" I exclaimed.
Mom said that it was a cuckoo.
It was sitting on our mango tree and singing.
It was a medium sized bird.
I too sang along with it, "coo...coo..."
After some time it flew away.

After a yummy meal, Rocky the puppy was resting under a tree. He heard the bees buzzing around his head. "Please, don't irritate me!" he said. Slowly, he fell asleep. Seeing this, a crow flew around the bees and woke Rocky up. He got angry. "Don't annoy me", he said. Rocky lost his sleep. Then he saw a cat chasing a squirrel. Just for fun, Rocky chased the cat. The cat got angry and told Rocky to leave him. By the time the squirrel climbed up a tree and disappeared among the leaves, "Chill, Chill, Chill", it mocked the cat. Rocky tried to climb up the tree. The cat saw him, jumped down and escaped. The crow saw Rocky climbing the tree. Her nest was in that tree, and her chicks were in it. She was afraid. She started circling around Rocky. Rocky stood on his hind legs, and then he walked back. On the way, he got a bone. It was so tasty. He started chewing it. The hungry crow was watching him. When Rocky closed his eyes in joy, the crow snatched the bone and flew away. Rocky barked. He jumped up and down and rolled in the mud. Soon, the sky became dark and heavy rain started with thunder and wind. The crow saw her nest swaying in the wind. Soon the branch broke, and the nest fell down. Hearing the cry of the chicks, Rocky felt pity for them. They were shivering. "Don't worry, dears", Rocky consoled them. Then Rocky heard a cry for help. It was the mother crow. She was caught under a fallen branch. Rocky's heart melted. With all his strength, he pulled the branch, moved it and saved the crow. The crow's eyes welled up with gratitude. "Take care", said Rocky and walked away.

My Creative Space.
Mittu the rabbit liked carrots very much. "Where will I get carrots every day?" Mittu thought. "An idea! Why can't we plant all the vegetables? Then my friends also can eat as much as vegetables". He ran to his friends. Pintu elephant, Mickey Mouse, Nandhi cow, Kitty crow and Beauty butterfly were planning a game in the morning. Mittu shared his plan with them. "That's a good idea", said Pintu Elephant. "Let's start. I will get the soil ready", he said. "I will dig the pits so that we can plant", said Mickey Mouse. "Then I can bring the seeds and saplings", said Kitty Crow. They all started working. By the evening, they planted all the vegetables like carrots, peas, lady's finger, eggplant and tomato.
Pintu elephant watered them every day. Nandhi cow brought cow dung
and manured the garden. In a few days, the saplings peeped out from the soil. The friends became happy. They nurtured the plants every day. Soon they started blooming. Beauty butterfly was busy with sipping nectar. Then it became a beautiful vegetable garden. Kitty crow flew over the garden and said, "Wow! You guys did a wonderful job" "Thank you, Kitty", said the friends. "It's all because we worked in harmony", said Nandhi cow. "You are very true", said Pintu. "Lei's harvest the vegetables tomorrow", said Mittu. They all agreed. That night, Mittu rabbit slept, dreaming of eating his stomach full of carrots.
